Overview:

Throughout all of her life’s experiences, author Angela Michelle has learned that both happiness and suffering are ubiquitous. In Choice, she shares a compilation of journal entries and narratives discussing some of her life’s most intense moments: being beaten nearly to death; having paranormal dreams and hearing voices validated by God; experiencing the brutal murder of her father; enduring flashbacks of childhood molestation; being raped in her own home; suffering through a frightening pregnancy and childbirth; and receiving visits from angels.

This memoir shares her thoughts and feelings as she moved through life, facing her fears and learning from all of her experiences. Choice narrates how she discovered there was a purpose for and a lesson learned from each event—a challenge to overcome and a new direction to follow.

Filled with emotion, Choice not only tells the story of Angela Michelle and how she faced her crazy life, but also serves to show that, through both the good and the bad, life has purpose.

Deeply agitated, Klein writes letters to Reichenberg expressing his still simmering hate for the man. Reichenberg, who has been a diabetic most of his life, replies in writing as well. Each tells of his own tragedies: Klein of his suffering and the loss of his entire family. Reichenberg of the loss of Esta, a young Jewish maiden assigned to him by the Jewish Ghetto Elders by way of a bribe in hopes to save their lives. Gerhard, gone from the ghetto for a few days, returns to find the entire village annihilated and no trace of Esta, who was pregnant. Ulrica Egberg, the center’s physical therapist, fond of both Klein and Reichenberg, tries to make peace between these two elderly men. The letters, bitter at first, become more tolerant and understanding of each other as they face the truth of their lives and their histories.

Stained-Glass Curtain

Stained-Glass Curtain
By Frank Wardlaw Wright

Format: E-Book (available as ePub, Mobi, and PDF files)
Pages: 336
ISBN: 978-1-47594-437-2
Print Type: B/W

Overview:

When Robert Martin’s wife, Angie, dies of breast cancer after thirty-four years of marriage, he attempts his lifelong dream—that of hiking the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. His constant companions are grief and memories.

On the trail, with a nickname of Dances with Snakes—Snaky for short—he meets a variety of other hikers. Socrates is a Duke graduate and know-it-all scientist; Preacher is a fervid Christian fundamentalist and proselytizer; Southern Bell is an Alabama veterinarian accompanied by her Labrador retriever, War Eagle; and Mother Superior and Czechmate are nurses and lesbian companions.

Snaky’s two thousand–mile trek becomes much more than a physical trial as his faith is tested by his personal loss. He engages the skeptic Socrates about theology, science, and nature. He spars with Preacher about how to read the Bible and what it says about homosexuality. His own perception of same-sex relationships is complicated by a physical attraction to Czechmate.

This volatile mixture of personalities produces adventure, friendship, conflict, and ultimately violence. As the walkers finally reach their goal, Maine’s Mount Katahdin, Snaky and his friends step from behind their individual curtains to reach a new level of human understanding and tolerance

The feeling in my stomach
As we lift off the ground
Still not as thrilling
As this love that I’ve found …
